ESMO Preceptorship Course on hereditary cancer genetics, 26-27 April 2019

ERN GENTURIS organised the ESMO Preceptorship Course on hereditary cancer genetics “Multidisciplinary management, standards of care and future perspectives” on 26-27 April 2019, in Lugano, Switzerland. Participants were young oncologists and general oncologists wishing to update their knowledge. Forty-two participants from 17 (mostly EU) countries were selected from 150 applications.

Learning objectives of the course were:

  • To learn about the best clinical practice in the multidisciplinary management of hereditary cancer syndromes
  • To understand the molecular basis and heterogeneity of the genetic susceptibility to develop cancer
  • To learn how to recognize, diagnose, treat and provide prevention recommendations to patients with a germline genetic susceptibility

The course was co-chaired by ERN GENTURIS member Judith Balmaña (Barcelona, Spain) and ERN GENTURIS coordinator Nicoline Hoogerbrugge (Nijmegen, the Netherlands). Lectures were given by 5 ERN GENTURIS Members from 5 member HCPs, 1 upcoming new Full Member from Italy and 1 Supporting Partner from the UK.

The programme of this event has been accredited with 10 ESMO-MORA Cat. 1 points. Recertification is necessary for medical oncologists to remain professionally certified by ESMO. Recertification guarantees that a certified medical oncologist has continued to update her/his knowledge and continues to possess the necessary skills and standards for the practice of medical oncology.
